Day 2: Not quite as good

Chris woke up this morning around 6 am feeling okay, but things have gone a bit downhill since then. He’s nauseous and we think one of the medicines he was given to help control pain (specifically nerve pain) is making him feel incredibly tired, dizzy, and “drugged up”. It’s a medication he took for a short period of time earlier this year when trying to control the myriad of weird symptoms he was having, and he didn’t tolerate it then either.

The nurses are also having to ween him off of the epidural, so his pain level is increasing, specifically around the incision area. (If you were not part of our Facebook poll, he does have 26 stapes in his abdomen.) Dr. Liu was in this morning and did say days 3 and 4, which would be Saturday and Sunday, will likely be the worst in terms of pain and discomfort.

However, he’s still been up and walking several times, doing multiple laps around floor 5. That seems to be when he feels best and looks the happiest ❤️

  1. Yep, getting weaned off the pain meds is when reality kicks in, but the dr. is right. I haven’t had surgery this major, but I do recall days 3 and 4 being rough. I hope and trust there’s an alternative for the medication that is making him dizzy? He’s a trooper – as are you – and the other side of this is not far off. We look forward to you getting home.
