Such a relief to finally get to see this guy ❤️ He looks great, he’s super coherent, and has way fewer tubes and doodads than I expected. The epidural is doing a great job controlling his pain and he’s thrilled to be drinking water, Sierra Mist, and apple juice.
We took a quick peek at his incision and it looks like a backward L – maybe 4 or 5 inches tall, going right over his belly button, and 7″ horizontally from his belly button to his right side. The great news is that there are no tubes coming out of his liver, which we were prepared for but not at all excited about. Apparently, a healing liver can produce a lot of fluid that needs to be drained but it’s my understanding that Dr. Liu was able to get the tumors out without much damage to the liver.
Now he’s taking a little catnap so I’ll keep typing…
When we (Chris’ parents and I) talked to Dr. Liu after the surgery he looked worn out and wasn’t his usual funny energetic self. I can’t imagine the pressure on this man – he’s dedicated his life to being “the NET guy”, tasked with treating and removing NET tumors that have invaded people’s bodies. He’s more than just a surgeon though… he’s also been our therapist for the past 4 years – as I’m sure he is for so many – because NET patients and their families don’t have many people they can talk to who understand what’s wrong with their insides and how it affects their entire life. I don’t know what else to say other than #jennycried and even though Chris is SO unlucky to have this rare cancer we feel like we’ve hit the lottery having found Dr. Liu right in our own backyard (thank you, Chef Corey & Mary Ellen!)
My wish is that Chris sleeps peacefully & as pain-free as possible tonight, as do you all. Thank you so much for your endless support. It most definitely takes a village!
Bear hugs!
Fantastic news!!!!

Well, this is all good news and given the stud that Chris is, I expect him to be kicking my ass at Red Rock Canyon in no time at all. But the seriousness of all this is real and we’re all hoping for the very best for you…..and Chris.

3 cheers for Chris, Dr Liu – and you! A long rough day. Those incisions sound painful but yay for no tubes! That must be because Chris has to be in better shape than his other patients.
