Day 5: NG tubes, hyperlinks, & everything in between

Hello!

Chris continues to improve and we are both so very thankful that he’s past the Saturday into Sunday experience. He told me last night it was the worst 24 hours of his life. I wholeheartedly agree.

He still has the NG tube in, and the x-rays he had this afternoon show some improvement in the intestines/bowels, but they are still not allowing much of anything through. This morning Dr. Liu reiterated to Chris that he did quite a bit of work on them and he’s not surprised they are super angry.

Chris still isn’t sleeping much (although he’s snoozing right now!), and he can’t eat with the NG tube in – although he can have a few super fancy ice chips (his nurse calls them “sips and chips”), so he’s very weak and a bit out of it. However, he continues to bust out the laps around the hospital! ❤️

The good news is, today he replied to a few text messages; the nurse permanently removed the bandages from his incision; and he can take a shower now – that’s the goal for tomorrow!

Dr. Liu stops by every morning, so we might have a better idea tomorrow, but right now it’s looking like a Thursday or Friday discharge. I know Chris is so ready to go home – hospital beds and pillows and IVs and dings and beeps 24/7 are the worst – but of course, we want him to be 100% ready to come home.

A few funny tidbits…

During the 24 hours that shall not be named, I asked Chris what his standing pain vs. his sitting pain was. His answer: a hyperlink vs. a big bag. Thank goodness I was wearing a mask because I did smile and let out a little giggle. Also, at some point, he said, “Dwight’s trying to trick me.” I guess I watch too much of The Office.

Thank you all so much, it’s so calming to know you are out there keeping Chris in your hearts. Bear hugs!! 🐻❤️

The best news, mama & papa bear must be so happy, as we all are. I was as worried about u there all alone as Chris, well a wee bit more for him. Get some rest, take a nice bath, eat
& get ready to be in your cozy nest again.
