Day 11: Shake it out

Dr. Liu stopped by to see Chris yesterday afternoon and again this morning. He thinks Chris will need to stay on the “liquids only” path for a while. He can’t say when his ileum will start being more responsive, but there’s no reason to think that it won’t. Hopefully, it’s sooner rather than later.

Chris will likely be discharged tomorrow, barring anything crazy happening between now and then. We all agree that, at this point, we have a pretty good idea of what Chris can and can’t digest, and being at home will be much better for his emotional, mental, and physical health. He’ll stay on the nutritional shakes for as long as he needs to and slowly test soft foods. Today he was able to drink two nutritional shakes, a glass of iced tea, and four – count ’em, four – saltine crackers!

We’re excited to have Chris home, back in his own bed, and walking around the neighborhood, breathing in the fresh air. I think being inside for so long has been one of the hardest parts for him.

I hope my Day 12 post includes a photo of Chris at home. That’s all I want for Christmas 🙂

Thank you all for your continued love and support. Bear hugs, everyone! 🐻❤️

Wishing you and Chris a seamless transition back home…to rest, recover and find peace in these last weeks of 2022. May the new year bring an abundance of heath, resilience and love!
